The Importance of Rest

While urban preparedness requires a certain state of readiness, many of us find it hard to switch off. Media consumption, planning, and training all contribute to the success of the day - but like a TV that's always on, burnout becomes a very real possibility. When planning for the long haul, don't forget the preventative maintenance. A little really does go a long way.

NOTHING COMES FOR FREE

Urban reparedness looks a little different for everyone, but no matter the 'apocalypse', there will always be a cost. Time, energy, money, focus - there's no way to avoid it. But there comes a point in every person's journey where the fatigue sets in, and road takes a turn. Boredom and complacency usually creep up first, but depending on how cranked up your doom meter is, so can the gloom. Preparedness requires a healthy state of readiness, so it's extremely important to be honest about where you're at. Otherwise you're likely to stall, forget something, or miss out on those ideas which only come to fresh eyes.

CALLING FOR A TIMEOUT

With a four-week vacation longingly in my rearview, it's easy to see the benefits of a break. But as much as I enjoy my time in the woods, nothing quite compares to that regular refresher. A little time away from the news. A couple days where I'm not counting beans. No, I'm not advocating for crystals under the pillow, or a membership at your local yoga studio. I'm talking about the little things that help to maintain that balance. This is especially important for people prepping long, as there's nothing light-hearted about what may be ahead.

READY, SET, GO!

The Olympic-level sprinter isn't always running, nor is the fighter fighting. They train hard, they train often, but don't forget about secret to their success - proper rest. Remember, preparedness is about being ready and able, but doesn't require perpetual motion. So don't forget the refresher. You owe it to yourself and your plans.

HOW DO YOU incorporate rest INto your URBAN PREPAREDNESS and Survival plans?
